The Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Forum of the 16th Academic Festival of Sun Yat-sen School of Medicine Was Successfully Held

On November 30, 2024, the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Forum of the 16th Academic Festival of Sun Yat-sen School of Medicine: Metabolism and Disease was successfully held in Room 401, Building 2 of the School of Medicine on the North Campus of Sun Yat-sen University. Zhou Jiaguo, Vice Dean of Sun Yat-sen School of Medicine, Sun Yat-sen University, attended the report meeting and delivered a speech. The report meeting was co-chaired by Professor Gao Guoquan, Director of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Professor Yang Xia, Deputy Director, Professor Yin Wei and Professor Zhou Ti.

Vice Dean Zhou Jiaguo extended a warm welcome to all the experts and lecturers present at this report meeting and congratulated on the convening of this Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Forum. On the occasion of the centennial anniversary of the university, he affirmed the work of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and expected that the teachers and students attending the meeting could benefit from it.

In the morning forum, Professor Li Jun from Sun Yat-sen School of Medicine, Sun Yat-sen University first gave a report titled "Remodeling of Cell Membrane Phospholipids and Escape from Ferroptosis in Tumors" and had friendly exchanges with the participating students. Subsequently, Associate Professor Dai Zhiyu from the School of Medicine, Washington University in St. Louis introduced "Introducing Lung Vascular Biology: Insights into Pulmonary Vascular Disease Mechanisms". After that, Professor Gao Guoquan from Sun Yat-sen School of Medicine, Sun Yat-sen University shared the latest research results of his team on metabolic secretory factors and cognitive dysfunction. Finally, Professor Ai Ding from the School of Basic Medical Sciences, Tianjin Medical University gave an excellent report on "Arachidonic Acid Metabolism and Cardiovascular Diseases". The venue was full, and many scholars from outside the university came attracted by the fame of the event. After the meeting, many participating scholars and students asked for advice and communicated with several experts.

In the afternoon forum, Professor Zhou Ti from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Sun Yat-sen School of Medicine presided over the opening. Researcher Chen Sifan from Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University brought a report on "Regulation of Diabetes and Vascular Complications by Intestinal Bacterial Metabolites". Professor Cai Weibin from Sun Yat-sen School of Medicine introduced the achievements of lactylation modification and mammalian myocardial regeneration. Associate Professor Liu Yang from the School of Basic Medical Sciences, Fudan University shared the new progress in the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome with artemisinin derivatives. Finally, Associate Professor Pan Chaoyun from Sun Yat-sen School of Medicine gave a report on "Tumor Metabolism and Regulation of Cell Cycle Checkpoints".

This venue attracted more than 150 participants, including more than 10 off-campus participants. The participants listened carefully and actively discussed, sharing a feast of disciplinary exchanges. This special session achieved a complete success!
