Department of Pathogen Biology and Biosecurity

The Department of Pathogen Biology and Biosecurity currently has 10 professors, 14 associate professors, and 2 associate research fellows. The department has produced a series of innovative achievements around important issues such as the pathogenic mechanism of major infectious diseases, the prevention and control of emerging and highly dangerous viruses, and the construction and management of high-level biosafety laboratories. Especially in the fields of new antiviral vaccines, prevention and control of mosquito-borne parasitic diseases, and biosafety technology products, outstanding achievements with international influence have been obtained. A batch of original research results with international influence have been published in well-known journals such as Nature, Science, Immunity, Nature Medicine, PNAS, JCI, and EMBO J, with a total scientific research funding of more than 200 million yuan. Relying on platforms such as the Key Laboratory of Tropical Disease Prevention and Control of the Ministry of Education, the Guangdong Engineering Technology Research Center for Anti-pathogenic Microbial Drugs and Immune Technology, the South China High-level Biosafety Laboratory, the Nuclear Technology (Insect Sterilization) R & D Center of the China Atomic Energy Agency, and the Collaborative Center of the International Atomic Energy Agency, compound talents are cultivated, laying a solid foundation for the university to carry out internationally leading infectious disease prevention and control.
