Introduction to the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department:

The Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department adheres to the "four orientations" and focuses on optimizing the scientific and technological innovation chain of "direction-talent-platform-project-results". It specializes in research directions such as malignant tumors, metabolic diseases, and cardiac development and repair. The department has established the Guangdong Engineering Technology Research Center for Gene Manipulation and Large Biomolecule Products, the Guangdong Engineering Technology Research Center for Disease Model Animals, and the Guangdong Key Laboratory of Marine Microbial Functional Molecules at Universities. It is also the supporting unit for the Guangdong Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Society and its chairman.

The current faculty includes 11 professors and 9 associate professors, including 1 Yangtze River Scholar, 1 National Distinguished Young Scholar, 1 leader of the National "Ten Thousand Plan", 2 National Outstanding Young Scholars, and 8 talents introduced by Sun Yat-sen University's "Hundred Talents Plan". The department has published over 120 papers in journals such as Nature, JCI, and Nature Communications, and has won first and second prizes for scientific and technological achievements from the Ministry of Education, Guangdong Province, and Jiangsu Province. The department offers courses related to "Biochemistry and Molecular Biology", and has edited textbooks such as "Biochemistry and Molecular Biology" and "Molecular Biology Techniques". In recent five years, it has won the second prize of Guangdong Province's Higher Education Provincial Teaching Achievements (2019, 2021) and the second prize of the National Textbook Construction Award (2021).
